OK. Been on a five day permacultural course with the splendid Patrick Whitefield. Blimey, he knows a lot. Now I'm going to try and apply the small amount of wisdom I managed to inhale and Make Our Garden Fabulous. In a forest garden, permacultural sort of way. So much to learn...so much to ponder. 'mazin'. One of the biggest things: I now completely get No Dig Gardening. Duh! Trashes the soil good n proper. In essence: Don't Dig It Up: Build It Up. Simples. I have so much stuff banging and buzzing around my head I have taken the radical step of buying a Brand New Notebook, with nose and eye pleasing squared paper, plain paper, lined paper and Very Useful pockets. Who can't love a new notebook?. So - first step: reconfigure the veggie patch, build cunning gated pathway straight to chicken run (for easy chicken poo ferrying, and for instant Chicken Tractoring when required), use free handy metric tonnage of bracken and bramble as mulch, add extreme edge-idge (Edge is a Good Thing, almost always. More Edge = more perfect opportunity for plants to straddle the best of both worlds - like light, and water, for example) and do some very major organic content input. As Mr W put it, the answer to most questions is M.O.C: More Organic Content. Makes a load of sense - it's investing in yer asset, innit. Even a red in tooth and claw, card-carrying capitalist would see this as jus' common sense. I am about to become the Queen of Soil. Watch this (polycultural) space.
