a forest garden ... or food forest ...
We ran a Blooming Bee Friendly Day in June 2014 with our local Hayle in Bloom group .., and it was fabulous...thank you Cornwall Community Foundation for helping us do this - kicking off with a great school assembly at the splendid Connor Downs School, who used their newsletter to inspire their parents to come along and get properly stuck in with their children. Just brilliant.

And you can also check out our Pollinator Masterclass day in November and our Blooming Bee Friendly in Hayle Map!

Our next Community Blooming Bee Friendly Day was in the Passmore Edwards Institute on Saturday 7th March 2015. We built dozens of bee hotels, made dozens of signs and planted dozens of sunflower seeds - as well as handing out posters, leaflets and lots of advice. And helping more people put themselves on the Hayle Bee Map ! In the run up to Saturday 7th March, we gave giving Bee Assemblies at the bee-tastic Penpol School, and judged their brilliant Bee Costume Competition - go, Penpol! Blooming Bee Friendly Day, June 2014

Locating our new bee hotels and bee cafes on the map with stars...
Little fingers checking out the honey combe...
Listening intently to the Story of Honey...
Making a bee hotel from a bundle of (locally grown!) bamboo sticks
A bee sign in the making...
Checking out the supers...
A work of art..a hand crafted bee hotel...
Getting the bamboo RIGHT into the hotel...
Signs being made left right and centre
No Bees = Much Less of all The Foods We Love. Uh-oh!
Planting a bee friendly plant is making bee food - which makes me food!
VERY local honey - the fruit of all those bee labours! (and maybe plants you planted?)
Learning to smell herbs with care...
Passionate explanation of the importance of bee hotels...
A Work of Art ...
Beautiful. :)
Fingers exploring the wax frames for the bee hive...
Just Fabulous!
Everyone got stuck in...
Exploring how the bee smoker works...
To concentrate, take one digestive biscuit, and nibble very carefully...
Jars and jugs and glass bottles...gorgeous display.
Creativity and imagination...and a helpful steadying hand...
Old bit of slate plus chalk marker = fab sign for the garden..
We actually RAN OUT of posters on the day. :)
Off cuts of wood + acrylic paint pens = lots of creative proud bee declarations for our gardens...and young gardeners...
We Love Bees!
Plotting all the Blooming Bee Friendly Gardens and People in Hayle...
Bees Love Flowers. Yes, indeed!
"I'm going to help the bees a LOT because I can't IMAGINE a world without Tomato Ketchup!"
Cut up bamboo in a safe dry place = safe place to nest for red mason bees - and others!

And Even Blooming Bee Friendlier, 2015!

Proud PenPollers with their customised Bee Signs: Brilliant.
No bits of bamboo go to waste...
Lots and lots of creativity...again!
There were even Bee Buns...(and butterfly cakes, of course!)
Empty bee hotels waiting for the doors to open just before eleven am...
Absolute Concentration.
A table full, before we opened - soon emptied!
And a great write up in the Cornishman, too, with the fab photographer Greg Martin:
